Import from Vanta

Import from Vanta lets an owner bring in the files exported from Vanta. Trustbird first shows what it would import without saving anything, and only starts the import once you confirm. Every import keeps its report.
Why this protects your organisation
Moving from one tool to another is where information gets lost: evidence without a date, a supplier assessment nobody can trace back. The import keeps the original dates and notes that each record came from Vanta, so the history of your management system stays intact and you can still show an auditor when something first happened.
Steps
- In your own Vanta account, export the files listed on this screen.
- Open Import from Vanta in the Workspace group.
- Add the files under Exported files and choose Show what will be imported.
- Check the numbers under What the import will do, then choose Start the import or Cancel.
- Follow the progress. When it is done, the report appears under Earlier imports.
Which files you need
The screen lists the exports to make in Vanta: People, Controls, Assets from the Inventory page, the Vendors spreadsheet, Risks, Policies (the export of policy acceptances), Documents, and the event log from the settings. The event log tells Trustbird when things first happened. If you fetched data from the Vanta API yourself, you can upload that folder as a single ZIP.
What the preview shows
Per kind of record (people, controls, suppliers, supplier reviews, risks, evidence, assets and policies) the columns New, Already there and Skipped show how many records would be added, already exist or would be left out. Each skipped item comes with its reason. Nothing has been saved at that point.
What Trustbird does not do
You never give Trustbird access to your Vanta account: there is no field for a token. Trustbird only reads the files you upload and removes them once the import has run. The report stays. Texts and templates written by Vanta are not copied.
If it does not work
I do not see Import from Vanta
Only an owner of the workspace can import.
These files could not be read as a Vanta export
Check that you uploaded the files exactly as Vanta exported them, as CSV, XLSX, JSON or ZIP, up to 100 MB each. Then try again.
A kind of record is missing from the preview
The preview lists what is not in the files you uploaded, and what was skipped with the reason. Export the missing file from Vanta and upload it together with the rest.
The import stopped before it was finished
Nothing from that import was saved. Try again, and contact us if it stops again.
